About Jan van Norel
NORELAY was founded by Jan van Norel, a VSPN® Sports Psychologist, with over 16 years of experience in top-level sports. During these years, he worked at clubs like sc Heerenveen, Vitesse, and PEC Zwolle, where he observed daily the significant impact thoughts, emotions, and expectations have on performance.
This experience helps him truly understand athletes and professionals: the pressure, the tension, fluctuating performances, the search for calm and confidence — and the feeling that sometimes you're playing against yourself. That's why Jan not only looks at the mental aspect but also considers what happens physically. Both are important for optimal performance.
The approach is calm, clear, and practical. No complicated theories, but clear explanations and concrete tools that you can immediately use in training, competitions, or just in daily life.

An initial session is primarily intended to get to know each other calmly. We discuss your goals, experiences, and what you currently need. There's no need to prepare anything. From this conversation, we determine together which guidance best suits you.
No. NORELAY works with athletes at all levels, from ambitious talents to elite performers. In addition, NORELAY also supports teams, coaches and professionals outside of sport who want to improve focus, mental resilience and performance.
Yes, absolutely. Young athletes are very welcome. The coaching is adapted to the athlete’s age, sport and stage of development. Where appropriate, parents or caregivers can be involved, always in consultation.
Sessions can take place:
- At NORELAY’s location
- On-site with the athlete, team or organisation
- In a training or work environment
- Online, if preferred
Together we choose the setting that works best for you.
A session typically lasts 60 minutes. Depending on the coaching programme, specific goals or a team/workshop setting, the duration can be adjusted.
